Mg? - The Digital Darkroom

As I while away a Saturday afternoon watching the 2012 British Touring Car Championship I'm wondering who is making that MG. Is it really a Honda? I know they had a relationship some years ago.

And I stil don't know of anyone buying them. I won't, but its not because of the troubled ownership over the brand, its more to do with the poor reputation the k series engine had that was fitted to most of the cars.

Don't know much about that engine Dave .

My association with MG was in the 70s with a series of 5 cars with "B" series 18gg engines.

Back in 06 when we had a similar thread Toneman also admitted to a Midget .... well unless he was referring to an old girlfreind???

The older models are fine, in fact I have thought about getting an mgb. It's the MGTF I absolutely would never have gone near ( http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MG_F_/_MG_TF ). The latest offerings to be fair, have probably got different engines however, for the money I'd rather have a second hand Merc / Audi / BM....... The list goes on.
And, in that old post, there was a certain fatman that had an mg metro

Btw, I'd have a midget if I could fit my fat butt through the door with the roof up

K series meh. Head gasket trouble. The original parts were rubbish. The head bolts are very long and secure through to the bottom end of the engine. They stretch very easily. The cooling design meant that when cold, the radiator was cut out of the cooling loop by a thermostat. Coolant circulated through the heater matrix. This had the benefit of allowing the passenger compartment and engine to warm up quickly on a cold day, But the detriment that often the thermostat would stick causing a very quick overheat which usually stuffed the head gasket.

I had a rover 214 and still have an MG ZS with K series engines. Both had head gasket failures in less than 50,000 miles. Both have third party hardened head bolts, and metal gasket sets and have been fine since.

My ZS is a 2001 Y plate with 53,000 miles on it. Originally owned by MG themselves and is fitted with the EM6 CV auto box. It has the usual flaws, like the heater blower not working on the first two settings. It drives quite well though for such an old design. MG did well with the suspension alterations. It's not my main car though.
